Ronald Wilson Reagan was born on February 6, 1911, in Tampico, Illinois, to John Edward Reagan and Nellie Wilson Reagan. The majority of Reagan's childhood was in Dixon, Illinois. In 1928, graduated from Dixon High School, after graduation he attended Eureka College in Illinois on an athletic scholarship, were he ran track, swam on the swim team and played football. In 1932 he graduated with a degree in economics and sociology.
In 1937 Reagan joined the Air Force reserve, he was activated in 1942 but due to personal issues Reagan disqualified from combat duty however due to his experience as an actor from his school years and as a civilian, Reagan spent his time in the Army/Air force making training films. When he was young he refused to eat at restaurants that treated people differently due to race, color of skin or religion. He believed in pro-business discussions, speaking out against excessive government regulation and wasteful spending. Finally the most charismatic trait Reagan possessed was he was proud to be American and his belief in the American dream.
During the 1980 election, Reagan set out to campaign across America on one of the grounds that Americans shouldn’t give up on the American dream. He said this during his campaign “always remember that you are Americans, and it is your birth right to dream great dreams in this sweet and blessed land, truly the greatest, freest, strongest nation on earth”(Morris p.265) Speeches like these inspired citizens/followers/voters to say these man represents the United States and everything we hold dear. Wheatear or not you were on the left or right people felt compelled to support him because they admired his values and philosophy.
