The author of this speech is one of the United States of America’s Presidents. Ronald Reagan served as the 40th President from 1981 to 1989. He served as the Republican Governor of California in the year of 1967 to the year of 1975. Ronald Reagan gave his speech on March 8th, 1983 to group of people who were mostly Christian Church Leaders. This speech praised and extended great gratitude towards the Evangelicas for their contributions to the American Culture. The iconic and significance of this speech was that it drew a line between the Soviets and the U.S. relationships. Ronald Reagan believed that the previous agreement was only one sided. Meaning the U.S. reduced their nuclear weapons but the Soviets failed to comply. So Reagan gave the Soviets an ultimatum, they either took steps toward nuclear disarmament or there would be an increase in the U.S. missile power. So many people felt that the United States should be leading the nuclear disarmament. Reagan received criticism all across the board from the government. Congress was in disagreement on was to settle the talks between the U.S. and the Soviet Union. There was also disagreement among some Reagan’s administration, some of the administration were people who were more guided by the practical considerations and the other were more guided by ideals the practical considerations. The people that were practical were more for softer tone and persuasive writing toward the Soviet Union. The idealist were more toward a forceful approach to the Soviets. So many people were not aware of the meaning and effect of Reagan’s speech at the National Association of Evangelicals, so the called the speech the “stealth speech”.
