The history of social work, goes way back in human history, because it covers a wide variety of human functions, but in America the New Deal Act of 1935, was established to help Americans with social problems after the Great Depression. It was Roosevelt’s plan to help reestablish our economy, by creating many new programs to help with poverty, unemployment, and the economic downfall caused by the Great Depression. For example the Social Security Act and many new state and federal jobs, created by the New Deal, were meant to help with human services. Frances Perkins, who was appointed by Roosevelt, as the Secretary of Labor, was the first female, and a social worker also drafted much of the New Deal (Barker & Edwards, 2015)During
