Rosa Parks strongly believed that all black people should be free and have rights equal to those of the white population because of her attitudes, beliefs and values she held at the time, so she took action. Parks was a civil rights activist who was constantly a victim to racial segregation and valued equal rights, she helped the American Civil rights movement reach their goal, she inspired many African Americans to act through a boycott and her attitudes towards segregation caused a major change for the African Americans.

On the 5th of December 1955, which was the day of her trial, the boycott began (Biography, 2016). Black leaders decided on demands that they wanted to be met which were a first come first seated policy on buses, hiring of black drivers on buses and courtesy (History, 2016), and from this day on until their demands were met, and the boycott had ended an estimates 400,000 African Americans people refused to ride on public transport and walked to work, some over 30 kilometres (History, 2016). To ensure that the boycott would be sustained car pools were organised and African American taxi drivers would only charge 10c, which was the same price as the bus (History, 2016). Finally, on the 20th of December 1956 the city appealed, their demands were met, and the boycott was over by the 21st (History, 2016). Through her actions she influenced many others who had the same negative attitudes about racial segregation and oppression.
