31 May 2016 Rosa Parks and Civil Disobedience Civil rights activist, Rosa Parks once said, “Each person must live their life as a model for others” ( Rosa Bio). Because of her part in desegregating other, she became a model for all. Rosa Parks’s involvement in civil disobedience was due to personal influences, she chose to participate in civil disobedience to protest segregation laws, and she achieved success using this controversial method of standing up for what she strongly believes to be right. Rosa Parks was born February 4, 1913, in Tuskegee, Alabama. Parks parents separated in 1915, shortly after Parks brother sylvester was born (Rosa Bio). Parks was taught to ready by her mother when she was young, Parks also attended a one room school in Pine Level in Alabama. The one room school lacked supplies such as desk’s. (Rosa Bio). Rosa left school to attend to both her sick grandmother and mother back in Pine Level. (Rosa Bio). Parks married Raymond parks a barber and active member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People in 1932. Parks, a barber and an active member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. With Raymond's support, Rosa earned her high school degree in 1933 ( Rosa History). Rosa parks said she was “tired” not tired of working all day, but tired of being treated like a second class citizen (Rosa Scholastic). Rosa stated that the very same incident happened 12 years before this by the same driver (Rosa Scholastic). Nine months before Parks got arrested the same incident happened to a 15 year old female Claudette Colvin. Colvin was the first Montgomery passenger who refused to give up her seat. Even though the same thing happened to Colvin months before she could be the spark to end bus segregation because she was pregnant. (Rosa History). After the boycotting Parks received many death threats and harassments.Even though Parks had become a symbol for civil rights movement Parks suffered the next few months. Parks lost her store and her husband was fired from his job. With this happening Parks and her husband decided to move to Detroit. Parks husband, brother and mother all died between the years of 1977, 19879 and 1987 from cancer ( Rosa History). Parks co- founded the Rosa and Raymond parks Institute for Self Development, to serve Detroit's youth. On October 24, 2005 Parks passed away at the age of Nighty Two.
