The text Rose for the Anzac Boys by Jackie French kept me intrigued in many ways. The character Midge was intriguing because she showed courage and honesty. A reason that the text was absorbing was due to the interesting setting. The text is set in Europe, New Zealand, Gallipoli, France and Australia during World War 1. Midge shows us that through perseverance and optimism that we can be helpful during times of war and strife. One important fact that really shows Midge as a young woman of character was when she was passionate about her friends, family and helps out the wounded men and is doing what’s right for everyone else. She gains enthusiasm to spice everything. Although, she has the courage to develop positive thoughts through her. An example when the wounded men were lying on the ground. Midge had the thought of helping them out by creating a canteen in France. It was hard for Midge to open up a canteen with Ethel and Anne because her uncle didn’t agree with it in the first place and her Uncle was afraid to lose her. The main ideas which hooked me were when Midge focused through all of her volunteering work. Example going out and aiding those in need. Whether it was helping the injured soldiers or other members. Midge had felt heartbroken for her brothers and friends. Then throughout the text, Midge never lost hope. But she was always loyal to everything she did and gave it one hundred percent.
