Donda is the culmination of a decade plus of mourning, with West honoring and dedicating an album to his mom. On top of this, West had become alienated and estranged from his wife, and embraced his Christian faith. All of these factors contribute to the unique and groundbreaking work of art that Donda is. In Donda, Kanye’s tenth studio album, West pivots to vulnerability and spirituality, crafting a unique work of art that not only showcases his continued trailblazing in the music industry, but also his growth as an individual. Donda’s sonic uniqueness is one of the many aspects that make the album so special. Kanye masterfully blends aspects of hip-hop, R&B, electronic music, and gospel, creating a unique musical landscape like no other. This can be shown through the contrast between the tracks “Jail” and “24”. “Jail” features Jay-Z, one of the most famous rap MCs, along with heavy beats and trap influences typical of hip–hop. On the other hand, “24” features West’s gospel choir group, the Sunday Service Choir.
