It's amazing how two people who come from polar opposite backgrounds shape their personality and character. One person comes from poverty, where he had to obtain wealth through hard work and commitment, whereas the other side decides to be homeless after not agreeing with his family’s decisions. In the short story “Home” by Tim Freeman, the author went in and out of homelessness out of choice, not by default. The story Tim has told made it seem as though he was a spoiled child who went on a tantrum and left on his own. The choice he made to leave home since he was mad about a family inheritance. The story for Tim turned out to be one that is an experience to learn. After wanting to go out and explore the vast world of New York, he went with all the stuff he needed and took a train towards the city. The choice of going to a city of popularity and riches wasn't an ideal choice if you don't have anything planned. As mentioned in the text, “The first night I stayed at a hotel in Midtown Manhattan”(Home 211) he went straight into a hotel in Manhattan to waste all the rest of his money rather than spending it wisely. When moving towards a city with a high wealth rate and pricy estate, he went and did not plan anything. Going into an expensive city without a care of looking at prices makes him look irresponsible and doing it out of spite to his family. Declaring himself homeless right after spending all of his money on a luxurious room in Manhattan was the decision he wanted to make over spending it wisely. Coming from a wealthy background, he wanted to experience what it was to be homeless, and made the choice to become down-and-out. As stated in the text, “If a family member had offered to take me in, I most likely would have declined the offer”(Home 213) a person who doesn't have anywhere to live will never give up the offer to live with a family member. Most of the time becoming homeless isn’t necessarily a choice that you have but the only thing you have left. When
