After the end of World War I the Untied States entered a period of the Roaring Twenties. During the Roaring Twenties, production was high, spending was high, and the Stock market increased by over four hundred percent. By 1929, stocks were overpriced, factories were overproducing goods, and bad credit all climaxed with the collapse of the American economy. By the time the United States realized what was wrong the economy was plunging with no end in sight. In an attempt to prevent the collapse JP Morgan invested one hundred million dollars into the stock market to try and calm people and prevent selling.

Life in the 1920s and 1950s While some similarities were noticeable between the 1920s and the 1950s, the differences were striking. The 1920s was known as the beginning of modern America. The 1950s was known for its lucrative prosperity and anxiety. Both eras’ were similar in their economics. They differed in politics and society.
The “Roaring” 20s In the early 1920s, people were celebrating. World War I ended in November of 1918, and many people were overjoyed. About 4.7 million American men served in the military, and the United States suffered a total of 436,516 casualties, with 116,516 dead. World War I is often referred to as “The Great War” and “The War to end all Wars”.
Low prices and mass production made cars affordable. Automobiles went from a luxury to a necessity by the end of the decade. The automobile created even a greater ‘roar’ with the multiplier effect by creating jobs and several businesses. Cars also allowed youth the opportunity to do more fun things, like dance. Entertainment in the Roaring Twenties offered pleasure and entertainment in a variety of activities.
Flappers In the 1920’s, a new woman and following a new era was born. Women were no longer scared to express themselves or to act different. They smoked, drank, and voted. They cut their hair, they’d get all dolled up and do their makeup, and they went to parties.
The first half of the 1900s was a rollercoaster to say the least. Prior to and during the 20th century, an enormous growth in industry occurred, with huge companies working to mass produce an ever-increasing amount of goods on a previously unimaginable scale. This time of growth and prosperity, at least for some people, lead to what is now known as the roaring 20s. The twenties are embodied by the pop culture of the time, with swingers (that eras version of clubbers) going to recreational events in automobiles in the latest fashion. Technological and cultural advances were quickly transforming the United States from a collection of somewhat disconnected regions, to a highly interconnected modern nation.

President Warren G. Harding had coined the term ‘a return to normalcy’, which was a nostalgic vision of American society with traditional values and roles, and was widely accepted and eagerly embraced by the population. It was during this time that America experienced “The Roaring Twenties”, an outstanding period of prosperity. There was also a significant shift from an agrarian society to an industrial society, which as a result, caused tremendous tension between traditionalists and modernists.

Throughout my childhood growing up in Miami Fl, was an amazing experience, it’s unique variety of cultures spread through one city is absolutely mind blowing. Although there was one thing one my mind at all times. One thing I never experienced was living out west and getting away from the Miami life. Its kind of hard to believe someone would prefer living out west, in the middle of nowhere than along a beach shoreline. As a matter of fact, living out west had become one of my priorities when I was making my college decision.

A little town in the middle of nowhere is often seen as just a small backward little place. It does depend, however, on what such a place offers to those living there. For those who grow up in such a small place the treasures are endless. This is the place where you learn most of life’s lessons, if not all of them. Having grown up in a town that was really a compact city, made the greatest impression on my life.
