In the story “The Adventure of the Speckled Band”, Sherlock Holmes is not responsible for the death of Dr. Grimbsy Roylott. One reason why Holmes is not responsible is because the snake is uncontrollable. Roylott was stupid to believe that the wild snake could be trained so easily. Furthermore, Holmes attacked the snake in self defense. If Holmes had not attacked the snake, then he, along with Watson, would have most likely died. Lastly, Holmes should not be held accountable for doctor Roylott’s death because Roylott was a dangerous criminal as described by Sherlock Holmes. “‘Subtle enough and Horrible enough.
