I believe that ISU-SHRM deserves to be named RSO of the Month for September 2017 due to our commitment to our goals, as well as our membership. In the first full month of the academic year, our RSO has made great strides of fostering and encouraging an environment of success, interaction, collaboration, professionalism, and commitment to the HR profession. In addition, our executive team has been planning events and developing a comprehensive strategic plan to best meet the needs of our members. To ensure our executive team is providing the best possible experience to our members, we developed an in-depth member survey to get feedback from our membership. In regards to our general meetings, in our first meeting, we had an ice-breaker activity in which we made 9 no-sew blankets for the Humane Society of Central Illinois. The no-sew blanket activity spurred from the feedback of our general members wanting to give back to the community of Bloomington-Normal more, as well as, wanting to get to know the members of the group better. We decided to make this activity very interactive so members could get to know each other more. In the activity, we had each of the executive team members lead a small group of 4-5 people which made the blanket. The executive team member would spark conversation with the group, learning more from each member. Following the initial group interaction, every 2-3 minutes, we would switch the groups based on a common question such as “Whoever in your group most recently finished a Netflix series, move one group to the left.” By the end of the activity, nearly every member got to meet the other members in ISU-SHRM, as well as getting to know each executive team member. This meeting served as a great first opportunity for members to meet one another, and give back to the community.
