“The greatest thing in the world to me is power at work- whether it is exhibited by a humble man, a huge engine, or an empire”- Rudyard Kipling (Buckley 1050). Rudyard Kipling was like the all time writer of the Victorian age. Rudyard Kipling was considered to be one of the brilliant minds of the 18th century. Kipling was an very artistic and inspiring writer. He was a writer who could write his way to the end of time and keep writing. Throughout his lifetime his life, career, and his poems had inspired others in many different ways. “Rudyard Kipling was an author who got to see part of the empire in the making” (Buckley 1050). Not many authors have the privilege to say that throughout their lifetime.
Rudyard Kipling’s life was very motivating. To others Kipling's life would seem impossible to live through. They are amazed that even though he went though these events he was still able to write and make children smile and laugh. Joseph Rudyard Kipling was born in Bombay, India, on December 20th, 1865 (Orel 333). At the time of his birth, His parents, John and Alice, were recent arrivals in India as part of the British Empire (Editors 1). Kipling had a very loving family. The family lived well, and kipling was especially close to his mother. His father an artist, was the head of the Department of Architectural Sculpting at the Jeejeebhoy School of Art in Bombay. Kipling's comfort came in books and stories. With few friends, he devoted himself to reading. He partially preferred the works of Daniel DeFoe, Ralph Waldo Emerson, and Wilkie Collins.
