Personal Statement

It has long been my ambition to study business at degree level. My main inspiration has come through my extended project qualification on the marketing mix and more specifically what different retail branches do to attract their target market; this project has allowed me to read a number of academically credited journals and numerous web pages which have only broadened my understanding and increased my appetite to widen my knowledge. I am currently reading, “Little Bets” by Peter Sims, which I have found is a very useful motivational book, I was particularly interested in the, “Growth mind-set chapter.”

Playing rugby has enabled me to acquire some vital skills which are often not taught inside the classroom, such as effective communication and striving to achieve above expectations not just as an individual but more importantly as part of a team. Becoming captain of the school rugby team has developed these skills even further and I have to take additional responsibility for both myself and my team; this highlights my commitment and leadership qualities. This passion for rugby has shown me that being part of a club is more than just playing a game, its being a part of a much bigger community which comes with different responsibilities, such as helping out at club dinners and also having the privilege of being a ball boy when Widnes Vikings played at New Brighton. This level of commitment shows that when I have passion for what I am doing, I am determined to be the best I possibly can, which can also be seen through my love of cricket having played for New Brighton over the past ten years.
