When Rusanov is thinking about the change of the court system, he begins to think about losing all of his powerful connections and what this may bring onto him. During his career, he put many people wrongfully in jail for reasons as ridiculous as not wanting to share an apartment with people he didn’t like. He thinks of only a couple of statements that could defend himself and the work he has done. One idea of his was exclaiming: “I wasn’t the only one! Why put me on trial? Name one man who didn’t do what I did.”(217-18) This line of thought is absolutely absurd, he is being a complete hypocrite.
