The Holocaust and the Genocide of Rwanda both deal with the mass killing of their inferior ethnic. Rwanda is a small country in Central Africa. The population was mainly made up of Hutu, but some were Tutsis. During the colonial period in Rwanda, a mass killing of Tutsis began(Rwanda: A Brief). There was tension between the Tutsis and Hutus (Bower). After Hitler became chancellor of Germany, he ordered the arrest of many Jews and sent them to concentration camps. This order began the mass killing known as the Holocaust(Wiesel vii). Both of these catastrophes have similar and different characteristics about them. The Rwandan Genocide began with the murder of the Rwandan president and the uprising of Hutu citizens. Hutu citizens became upset with it and began to hunt and kill Tutsi citizens. The killing of many Tutsis was part of the beginning of the Rwandan genocide(Powell). The initial start of the Rwandan genocide was the killing of the Rwandan president in 1933(Bower) After the murder of the president, Hutu citizens are encouraged to kill Tutsi citizens. The Rwandan Genocide used radios and public speaking to help kill the inferior ethnic. Civils wars were continuing and millions of Hutus fled to Rwanda. The cause of the spread has to deal with radios encouraging citizens to kill others. In the article, “ Rwandan Genocide,” the author states, “ The mass killings in Kigali quickly spread from that city to the rest of Rwanda, with some 800,000 people slaughtered over the next three months. During this period, local officials and government-sponsored radio stations called on ordinary Rwandan civilians to murder their neighbors.” This is what helped spread genocide throughout Rwanda(Rwandan Genocide). The way the killing of Tutsi spread is different from the killing of Jews spreading. During the Holocaust, soldiers of Hitler’s government were ordered to kill Jews, and did so. They were not socially or publicly persuaded to kill
