Many of the novels discuss narrative and memory in an artistic form. These stories are told through ongoing character experiences in an ongoing plot. Overtime, sentimental events unfold. However, true narrative art enables the reader to grasp a better sense of the characters generational struggle while capturing the moments in the novel's time frame. From a first person artistic perspective, the reader is provided characters who serve as witnesses not only to their own life stories, but, to the larger history of the era. Many authors choose a historic approach over an artistic route. Sixteen years later, The Americans established formal diplomatic relations with Korea on May 22, 1882, by concluding the “Treaty of Amity and Commerce,” the first unequal treaty signed with any western nation. Koreans were allowed to immigrate into the country under provision made in the treaty, however, it took almost another twenty years before any Korean immigration took place. In 1908, the Roosevelt administration entered into an agreement with Japan: The Gentleman’s Agreement. This allowed Japanese immigrant men to bring their wives into the U.S to join them: The Picture-Bride Program. At the time, Japan had made Korea a colony in 1910, so Korean men living in America were also allowed to bring their Picture-Brides as well, many of the marriages were arranged due to Korean Culture. Upwards of 800 Korean women immigrated to the U.S to join their husbands. Of course this information provides insight, however, it lacks emotion and the cultural experience, one of the many benefits that ‘Fictional Narrative Art’ provides through first-person peripheral
