Nonviolent Drug Offenders Drug Treatment Completion Explored
In another journal article found in the Journal of Drug Issues relating to the Substance Abuse and Crime Prevention Act, researchers implemented a mass survey in order to see what ways in which the SACPA program could potentially be improved. It reviewed certain facts such as how SACPA introduced treatment to over 50,000 nonviolent drug offenders each year the program was offered instead of nonviolent drug offenders serving time for their crimes (Urada D., 2011) Stakeholders within the SACPA program were the ones that were used to complete …show more content…

Researchers concluded that there were in fact two main results at the end of the survey that was completed (Urada D., 20011). Using the surveying method that the researchers chose, allowed them to see that funding for the SACPA program needed to be increased in order for SACPA to be more successful for the nonviolent drug offenders as well as helping society itself. I liked the use of this survey method, because it allowed for a better scope of what the program can actually do to help those participating in it and the communities in which this program is within.
The second crucial finding in this study concluded that the SACPA program should be optional (Urada D., 2011) In short, this means that nonviolent drug offenders should have the right and be given the option to participate in the SACPA program and fully complete it or choose to serve a brief sanction of time in incarceration if they would rather instead. This survey allowed for us to see more information when it comes to those that have fully completed the SACPA program. It also gave more data to go along with the original study that I have reviewed
