As a result, these young women are eager to share their time and talents with the campus community. For example, Leadership Academy serves to build self-assurance and leadership skills and follows a curriculum based on The Five Practices of Exemplary Leadership by Jim Kouzes and Barry Posner. Our research tells us that 75 percent of participants go on to hold leadership positions in their chapters or on their campuses. Ultimately, we all want the same thing: a strong campus comprised of individuals who aspire to gain new perspectives, develop leadership skills and strive for personal growth.
Through the National Student Leadership Conference, I will be marching out of my comfort zone and learning qualities that will aid me in becoming a better leader. In my school there are numerous leadership opportunities, from being class president, to being a house captain, to planning a school wide event.
My path to law school has began in my sophomore year of college, now I am ready for the challenges ahead with an eagerness to learn. I have discovered over the years that I embody the unique combination of activism, diligence, and courage beneficial for a legal career. I originally had an interest in pursuing a law degree as a student in the School of International and Public Affairs at Florida International University. At the time, I chose to major in criminal justice with the intention of becoming a defense attorney. However as I neared graduation I was not certain about a career as a defense attorney.
A leader is able to gain an audience’s attention because of their personality, morality, and how they hold themself. It is important for a leader to be organized, compassionate, able to compromise but also be firm on what they believe, and be a person who people look up to and aspire to be. I was part of an organization called National Charity League and this organization helped grow women’s confidence, public speaking skills, time management, and organizational skills. Each month, each class holds meetings to plan and discuss projects that follow the class’s focuses. This past year Class of 2023 philanthropic focus is children, cultural focus is international food, and for leadership we are focusing on self care and reflecting on the NCL experience.
I would like to be apart of ASB because I’m interested in helping Medea be the best school it can be. I always like to learn new things and I will appreciate new experiences learning from seventh and eighth graders. I am responsible and I am excited for my leadership skills to be tested. Also, I will gain more responsibility and learn more leadership skills throughout my time in ASB. As part of ASB, I will be able to work with other students who have similar interests and want to be fellow leaders at Medea.
Since enrolling in the College of Pharmacy, I have worked to improve my leadership skills through my involvement in community service and being an active member and Historian of Lambda Kappa Sigma (LKS). Joining Phi Lambda Sigma (PLS) will allow me to learn more about myself as a leader, including where I can improve and how I can benefit those around me, and assist me in becoming a more effective leader. My personal goal as a member of PLS is to feel more comfortable interacting with other professionals, positively interact with all populations I may encounter, and step out of my comfort zone when given new opportunities for advancement and reflection. I will accomplish this through opportunities to participate in activities that increase
My freshman year, I made the wise decision to participate in the Leadership Development Program (LDT.) Participating has put me in many notable roles in campus leadership and helped me gain entrance to much sought after leadership and program slots including: Drury Enactus, Alternative Spring Break, Summit Park Residential Leadership Community, Drury Student Senator, President’s Roundtable, and Freshman Orientation Leader. Today, if I could sum up my participation in leadership and extracurricular activities, it would be: meaningful involvement. I do not take
Some of these student leaders are able to work with large budgets, recruit large numbers of members, and fundraise for many different charitable non-profit organizations and non-governmental organizations. Being in this supportive group of inspiring leaders allows for students to be leaders and have a safe place to fail when their goals don’t reach their full potential before they
Personal Leadership: Why are you interested in joining one of the Leadership Academy cohorts and how will participation and engagement support your professional goals? I am interested in the HCS ASPIRE program because it will provide me with a focused learning experience that is specifically designed to strengthen my leadership skills and gain insights from experienced leaders who design and implement effective teaching practices within our district. Through this opportunity, I can improve my communication and decision-making skills. Engaging in this cohort also allows me to connect with district stakeholders who share similar practices and principles surrounding student growth and achievement. I strongly believe that participating in this
I know that the University of Texas at Austin goes beyond academic recognition. It values integrity, positive behavior, and morals of dependable students that I want to help the campus continue. The first time I played a leadership role was when I became an officer for my church youth group. As the committee chair, I take charge in conducting monthly Bible studies. I have realized throughout the process of holding a Bible study that it is a strenuous task.
As someone who is passionate about serving, leading, and impacting others, the opportunity to be on the Green Run Leadership Workshop staff can ultimately allow me to change student’s lives for the better. From being an SCA officer, a mentor in student connection programs, a committee chairman for middle school CWSCA, and more, I have learned that leadership is a powerful service that is vital to personal growth. Within these activities, the bonds created and lessons taught truly shown me what it takes to be a leader. My positive, hardworking, and caring nature allow me to make others feel more than a member. Before GRLW, I was a kid who didn’t fully see my true potential, but after a weekend of being surrounded by amazing mentors and a great
Prior to entering the Masters of Counselling program I envisioned my future role as a counselor to include advocacy, connection and collaboration with other practitioners in my community, community awareness, building client counsellor relationships with diverse clients, court appearances/testimony (for child custody cases) and a private practice while working part time for a community agency. Now that I am in my second semester of my masters degree, I continue to envision these future roles for myself, however now I am also considering at a later point in my career, adding consultation and clinical supervision to my future roles. In my current role as a supervisor, I appreciate the connection I have with my co-workers and appreciate being
