• Why do you believe that a career or graduate school related to STEM (science, technology, engineering, or mathematics) is right for you?
A career in STEM is right for me because my interest in biology could help to improve the well-being of people and advance our country. Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics are the overlying foundations needed for the development of every nation. As the world continues to advance, the areas of STEM will forever be necessary in maintaining our modern and convenient lifestyles. Without progression of the STEM field, our world as we know it may deteriorate in the future. The program offers support and assistance that would be easy to access throughout my stay at UMBC. The services that the program has to offer, such as career exploration and personal advising, would help me achieve my goals of pursuing a career in forensic science. Most importantly, I would use the skills and knowledge I attain through this program to eventually give back to the community and empower young people to pursue a career in STEM. The accountability-focused advising would allow me to have a deeper student-advisor connection than most students, while being able to demonstrate discipline and dedication to the university and the BUILD Training Program. It would benefit my personal productivity because I would have more responsibilities to be aware of and greater understanding of what it takes to be successful. When completing projects and assignments, I would be capable of doing exemplary work and not falling behind. I would also enjoy and benefit from the various activities and challenges that the BUILD Training Program will expose all of the students to because it would give us personal and hands on instruction as well as allow us a chance to network and learn about the different STEM fields from a peer
