It was clear that McCandless was ill-prepared for many of the situations that he was presented with throughout his adventure to Alaska. McCandless was very passionate about pursuing his dreams to live off the land. Although, if he wanted to survive long enough to enjoy living in one of the most harshest environments on earth, it would have only made sense that he carefully planned out every detail of his trip to prevent him from dying. However on the contrary, it was as if he had no plans or strategies to prevent this from happening. The ultimate sacrifice McCandless paid from unpreparedness was death.

Alice Walker is a Pulitzer Prize-winning American author who was born on February 9, 1944, in Eatonton, Georgia. She is one of eight children brought up in a poor household still recovering from the effects of the great depression. During her early childhood, Walker was accidentally shot with a BB gun, leaving her with a large scar across her eye; this caused her to withdraw from the world and confide in reading and writing poetry. She later published her first official work Once, a collection of poetry in 1968, and continued from there. Through her work, she became very involved in the civil rights movement, which had a huge impact on her publications.

Erik Fresen was a Florida House Representative who served in office for eight years. During his term in office Mr. Fresen didn’t file tax return, owing approximately hundred thousand dollars in back taxes and that is excluding fines and penalties for the crime. In 2011, he received more than two hundred thousand dollars in income tax which he didn’t report that year. Fresen is pleading guilty before Judge Scola because he knowns that he can receive a lower sentence. The prosecutor is asking for one year in prison, and the defense attorneys are asking the Judge for probation.

It’s cold enough to crack stones, and when the snow falls it is gray. Nothing moves in the ravaged landscape save the ash on the wind. Everything has gone, only except some human beings who try every way to survive even by hurting and killing people.
Sacrifice, one the most prominent themes in Khaled Hosseini’s The Kite Runner, clearly determines a person’s unconditional love and complete fidelity for another individual. Hosseini’s best-selling novel recounts the events of Amir’s life from childhood to adulthood. Deprived of his father’s approval and unsure of his relationship with Hassan, Amir commits treacherous acts which he later regrets and attempts to search for redemption. These distressing occurrences throughout his youth serve as an aid during his transition from a selfish child to an altruistic adult.
Harry Potter and The Half-Blood Prince, Twilight, The Hunger games and The Cather in the Rye are all extraordinary books. Four of them are different in so many ways. The main subject in Harry Potter is magic, Twilight is all about vampires, The Hunger Games revolves over saving your own head in the games and Cather in the Rye discuses problematic in a life of one teenager. Overall, they have some themes that make them similar, as I will here discus about sacrifices that are made in four of these books. Each sacrifice is done because of the people these characters love.
Parenting has been a long practice that desires and demands unconditional sacrifices. Sacrifice is something that makes motherhood worthwhile. Hassan is loyal to Amir even though in their childhood Amir was not a good friend. Baba sacrifices his life in Afghanistan for Amir to have an education in America.
In the movie Casablanca directed by Michael Curtiz, the theme of this mysterious/ romantic is self-sacrifice and unhappy love. These themes are best expressed in the interactions of the three main characters: Victor Laszlo, Ilsa Lund, and Rick Blaine. A love triangle forms with both men’s mutual love for Ilsa. Unlike the typical romantic love triangle, in the end, the results lead to unhappiness and loss for all of them.
Despite having the trappings of a hard sci-fi adventure story, Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar is a deeply humanist and spiritual film exploring philosophical and emotional issues in a complex way (Dean, 2015). Central to this are the concepts of bravery and sacrifice: as Cooper (Matthew McConaughey) and the rest of his crew take great risks and travel vast distances to save humanity from a dying Earth, the characters all display varying aspects of the human condition, especially related to these very big, complex ideas.
