The book The Maze Runner by James Dashner is a dystopian/fantasy book about a large group of boys being trapped in a functioning society surrounded by a maze (with deadly monsters inside) which they’ve been scouring for two years, until Thomas came. Then Teresa followed him there two days later and changed everything. In this book, two very present themes are “Working together gets stuff done better and faster” and “Sacrifices for the greater good are always worth.” These themes are shown by the Gladers struggle to escape the Maze and the things they do to escape.

Thomas helped Alby and Minho survive the Maze at night, which was a great sacrifice considering he could’ve died for them. Another example of sacrifice in our book is when Chuck took a stab (which turned fatal) for Thomas. This happens when on page 356 the author wrote “Then, inexplicably, Chuck was there diving in front of him.” Chuck sacrificed his life for Thomas and the good of all the other Gladers, who needed Thomas’ leadership skills and grounded thinking. This sacrifice left everyone upset, but was the smartest decision for the group.
James Dashner was the Author of The Maze Runner, and did a very nice job with the book. James Dashner wrote so that the readers felt emotionally attached to every character, and all the hopes and dreams the character had. As a reader of this book, I felt like I would’ve made the same sacrifices the characters did because of how well the author made me feel connected to the characters. The connection the author formed made the reader have a deep understanding of the themes in this book. James Dashner is an amazing author who really pulls you into the
