Philip Zimbardo once stated, “I'm saying to be a hero it means you step across the line and are willing to make a sacrifice, so heroes always are making a sacrifice. Heroes always take a risk. Heroes always deviant. Heroes are always doing something that most people don't and we want to change.” I completely agree with what Mr. Zimbardo said, A hero is someone who will always be willing to make a sacrifice for the greater good. Stories about heroes have been around for much longer than most people realize. For one, because you never know when you'll need their help. And two, because it's a sign you respect people, which all great leaders do.” To be a great hero you need to be a great leader. Heroes work to improve things and make the world a better place, if you can’t lead people in the right direction then how can you become a good hero. One great leader is Captain Chris Carter. When Chris Carter noticed a crying, elderly women in the middle of a firefight taking place on a bridge, he did not hesitate to do the right thing. He ordered his armored vehicle onto the bridge while him and two men went to her on foot. While using the bridge's steel beams for cover from the iraqi bullets, he tossed a smoke grenade for cover and ran to the women’s side. Being the great leader he is, he ordered his men to carry her to an ambulance off the bridge while he provided them with cover fire. This women could easily have been shot and killed if not for Chris and his soldiers. If it were some other captain there, not him, they could have simply kept fighting and not have rescued her. 4,486 American soldiers have died in Iraq and 2,345 in Afghanistan. If it weren’t for great leaders like this guy then there could possibly been many more. That is why I think you need to be a great leader to be a hero. Great leaders make great
