and Saddam took over full control. Because he had previously acquired control over every department in the country, he held onto his power when he became president. He knew that if there was any chance of his power being taken away from his it would be because of the military. In order to prevent this, Saddam appointment his close friends and family in high positions and appointed himself General. He was covering all of his bases to prevent a revolt of any kind. Many people compared his leadership style to the style of Stalin.

Many referred to this as his reign of terror. When the world found out about what was going on, they were determined to stop it. Many countries including the United States came together to find Saddam and put an end to his reign. In December of 2003, Saddam was captured by American troops and remained in US custody under solitary confinement until 2004 where he was taken to court for crimes against humanity where he pleaded not guilty. Saddam did not act professionally during his trial. Many times he got into arguments or would yell at the judge or whoever was questioning him. His team was also known to storm out of the court room. Once day Saddam even refused to enter the court room because he claimed that he was being treated unfairly. On November 5th 2006, Saddam was sentenced to death by hanging. He was outraged and did not believe that he deserved this. Although he appealed his sentenced, it was rejected. He was no longer able to appeal and he had to be executed within 30 days. Early in the morning on December 30th 2006 Saddam Hussein was hanged. He left 30 years of history and dictatorship. His death made world-wide headlines. Unfortunately that is because the great power that he was given, he did not use responsibly. I hope you now understand that Saddam’s early years were not ideal. He went through hardships growing up and that ended up putting him in a situation that led to his dictatorship. Hopefully you have learned that Saddam’s time as a rebel came from his dropping out of school because without that knowledge you wouldn’t know how he became deputy of Iraq or how he acquired full power over the country. This presentation should have taught you that Saddam did not start out his reign of Iraq as a dictator but as he became power hungry he also became paranoid and this lead to him becoming the violent dictator who ruled Iraq for 30 years.
