Saint Anthony was a Christian Monk who was tempted by the devil and he overcame these act of temptation to preach the word of God. Anthony was a very important figure in the Christian community. Anthony was a very faithful saint because of his early life, public life as a hermit and his faith and loyalty during temptation, and his construction of multiple monasteries. Anthony was born in Coma in Lower Egypt in 251 A.D. to rich parents. When Anthony was 18 his parents passed away and he was left alone with his sister. Shortly after the death of his parents he went to follow the Evangelical course of Jesus. Anthony sold half of his property to make profit for the homeless. He than lived a simple life, he put his sister with a group of Christian virgins. For the next part of his life he lived as a ¨hermit.¨ As a hermit, Anthony lived a majority of his life in solitude and faith. The temptations the devil inflicted, included boredom, laziness, and crowds of woman. Each of these different ways of temptation tested Anthony’s faith to see how loyal to God he was. Anthony was able to flee from temptation, and he decided to lock himself in the tomb and block out all temptation. He depended on the citizens around him to bring him food to survive. His most important achievement was defending himself from temptation of the devil. Even when the devil tempted him with food when he was hungry Anthony stayed loyal to his faith and to God.
