In arthur miller's, “The Crucible” this town called Salem has been full of drama about a group of girls being accused of witchcraft. Reverend Parris found that group of girls dancing and taking their clothes off in the woods with Tituba. He then invited Reverend Hale(witch hunter) to Salem to get down to the bottom of it.
For example, Reverend Parris has a daughter named Ruth. Ruth is one of the girls in the group, she has fallen into a unfamiliar daze after Parris had found the girls dancing in the woods. Mrs. Putnam has a daughter named Betty, she has falling into the unfamiliar daze too. The whole town of salem thinks that them two girls falling into the dazes was because of witchcraft. Abigail (Parris’s niece), she had confessed that she has seen the devil and that there are spirits that come to her in the night. One of those spirits was Elizabeth, Proctor’s wife. Abigail told the court that Elizabeth’s spirit came and stabbed her with a needle from one of her poppets. The night they got back from court Mary, had given Elizabeth a poppet, little did they know she had stuck a needle under the poppets dress.
This also shows that, everything was starting to become even more crazy. Reverend Hale went to visit John Proctor and his wife. He began to question them. Hale asks about their Christianity, why they have two children that is baptised and why the last one is not, how often they go to church, and if they knew the commandments or not. Hale did not know whether they were honest or not.
In the fourth act John told Hale about Abigail and how she was lying about her confession. Hale started to believe Proctor. He does not believe that Proctor is a witch like everyone says he is. Hale wanted a good judge for Proctor to present this information to so that maybe that judge would believe him and it would end in a correct way. At the end of that conversation the Proctor’s explained themselves and Hale left knowing what he
