During the Salem Witch Trials there are dark forces that make the outcome of the trial possible. One force is the devil, if you are not with god then you are accused of being with the devil. When Tituba takes all of the young girls out into the woods to conjure spirits from the dead or attempt to conjure spirits from the dead, they end up conjuring the devil. After this happens everyone is accused of witch craft. When Tituba is accused she confesses and claims that she wants to be a good christian now and stop hurting people. This is the first sign of the devil because she confessed to conjuring the spirits but then claims to be christian now so she will not be hanged. For example, the first thing that happens is during the trial Elizabeth Proctor has a poppet that she gives to Goody Proctor. She also puts a needle in the poppets stomach that she says she forget about. But then later that night Abigail Williams gets stabbed in the stomach and accuses Elizabeth Proctor of murder. When the court or authorities of Salem search the Proctor’s house they find the poppet with the needle in its stomach, which gives them a lead way on Elizabeth using witch craft to try and kill Abigail Williams for sleeping with Elizabeth’s husband. Another thing that happened during the trials is when Mary Warren tries to confess and say that she lied about seeing the spirits and that she falsely accused others of witch craft, Abigail Williams and the rest of the young girls deny Mary Warren’s charges. Then Abigail and the other girls see a bird in the court room and say that Mary Warren is sending out her spirits against the girls. When no one else sees the bird but see the way the young girls are acting Mary gets charged with witch craft. Abigail continues her claim against Mary about attacking her until Mary Warren recants her confession that she lied about everything and then says the John Proctor is the devil’s man.
