In Rosalyn Schanzer Witches! The Absolutely True Tale of Disaster in Salem, An event in History where two girls with an illness are thought to bewitched. Hysteria fills the town and causes a wild witch hunt that leaves No one was one hundred percent sure why the girls became bewitched, which was highly unlikely that it was actual witchcraft. The Salem Witch Trials were caused by illness, Attention seeking, and Revenge.

One of the reasons why the salem witch trials occurred is illness. It was said that two of the bewitched girls were actually mentally ill. This mean that there demonic “fits” could have just been a side effect of their illness. ¨We still don't know weather betty was really sick from the dread disease back in 1692, though she was one of the two people who were most likely to have been truly ill. Although only two girls were found to have an illness it is very possible that other people could have been ill as well due to the current living conditions and the hysteria in the town.

Another reason why the salem witch trials occurred is due to attention seeking. The two young girls that started having the fits first were suspected of faking their “bewitched” fits just to get attention. Many people suspected they kept going when it got too serious and used their fits a scapegoat to not get punished. …show more content…

After the accusations started people would accuse other people so they could seek revenge upon them.
