9 and 11 year old girls started to scream, cry unstoppably and have said to see a ghostly figure of their fellow townspeople. The diagnosis was easy, it was witchcraft. This sent the colony of Salem into a frantic state of matter. They had started to see that other children in the town had the same symptoms. They had began to accuse people left and right.
In Salem, Massachusetts, 1692, tensions were elevated. Many of the Massachusetts colonists experienced satanophobia, or the fear of Satan, for many years. This fear became heightened after three girls, 9-year-old Elizabeth Parris, 11-year-old Abigail Williams, and 11-year-old Ann Putnam began showing strange symptoms: extreme outbursts of screaming, violent contortions, and uncontrollable fits. But there were several other girls who showed similiar signs; they were all known as the 'Afllicted Girls'. After Elizabeth Parris's father questioned the doctor about her condition, the doctor came to the conclusion that the girls were bewitched since he found nothing physically wrong with them.

After she was hanged, the accusations during trials spread to other communities in Massachusetts. Taking place mostly in Salem, the Salem Witch Trials took place in the late seventeenth century. In Massachusetts at this time, two Salem communities existed.
As the witch hunts got worse is when they started to execute them. In the middle 1400s to the mid-1600s, witchcraft trials became popular, sending death rates up. From 50,000 to 80,000 people were executed throughout Europe. From the 80,000 people roughly “80% were women” (Grace Z. 2007). This shows how mostly women were the ones that were giving up their life to the devil in order for them to have power and be able to proceed rituals.
What really happened? The Salem Witch trials were the most notorious killings of 1692, 20 people were put to death with little to no evidence. During the late months of summer in Salem, Massachusetts rumors of witches swept the town. Many different theories have been stated on why the the salem witch trials happened and why the girls did it.
The Salem Witch Trials were a dark time in history for the American colonies in 1692. Colonists were wrongly accused and killed because others thought they were witches. The trials affected the beliefs of people’s thoughts on witches and other mystical beings. Also, it has impacted both Salem and America equally. The Salem Witch Trials are a dark chapter in American history that helped define societal beliefs.
History has changed the way people look at life today. Looking back on the way they foraged and settled on new lands is truly an exciting part of history. However in the year 1692, in America, a tragedy struck. In the town of Salem village were accused of witchcraft and sorcery. The Salem witch trials have been a big part of history, with many accusations and theories no one really knows what really happened.
For my research paper project, I will be writing about the Salem Witch Trials. The year 1692 was a major event in history, The Salem Witch Trials leaves this country with many of questions as to what and why this happened in such a small town. This event was the main focus at this time, more than a hundred innocent people were found guilty of practicing witchcraft at this time. I chose this topic because I have always been interested in this event in our history. I also really care about women’s rights and how we are treated, considering most of the people tried for this time in history were women this made me even more interested.
1. Salem witch trials began in 1692 when a group of young-teenage year old Puritan girls said that they had been possessed by the devil. This caused there to be many panic attacks through all over Massachusetts after this news had spread. The victims of these witch attacks usually were the old, disadvantaged, property-owning females. The whole nation was in panic mode attempting to stay away from and convict the witches.
The Salem Witch Trials happened during the Spring of 1692, when a group of girls in Salem Massachusetts claimed to be possessed by the devil and were accused of witchcraft. This was the beginning of the salem witch trials. Although there are multiple theories, I believe that the Salem Witch Trials were caused by the fear that there were witches and the people of Salem were trying to protect everyone by hanging them. First, the daughters of Samuel Parris became sick in January. When they did not get better the village doctor, William Griggs, was brought to look at them.

The Salem Witch Trials occurred during 1690’s in which many members of Puritan communities were accused and convicted of witchcraft. These “witch trials” were most famously noted in the town of Salem, Massachusetts. Many believe this town to be the starting point for the mass hysteria which spread to many other areas of New England.
Nearly anyone from the New England has heard of the famous Salem Witch Trials. A year of persecution, leading to the accusation of nearly 200 citizens of all ages. No one was safe; men, women, children, even pets stood trial and 20 were hung for the supposed crime of witchcraft (Blumberg). 1692 was a year of witch hunting. Most today blame the trials on hysteria, or perhaps a bad case of paranoia.
Not many people know much about what actually happened in the Salem Witch Trials. Maybe someone would think that it was just about witchcraft and crazy people being hanged, but it is a lot more than that. The Salem Witch Trials only occurred between 1692 and 1693, but a lot of damage had been done. The idea of the Salem Witch Trials came from Europe during the “witchcraft craze” from the 1300s-1600s. In Europe, many of the accused witches were executed by hanging.
The Salem witch trials was one of the most absurd and tragic events in history of pre-colonial America. A fine example of how believing in accusations and hearsay could affect a lot of people in a short span of time. the justice system is flawed and prejudice was allowed to reign over the people. I found this topic very interesting even though it is one of the most regretted in history. I’ve always been the type of person who likes reading all those weird and peculiar things on the internet.
How two little girls (Abigail and Betty) where the first to suffer from fits of hysterical outbreaks and how many accusers came forward and described how they or their animals had been bewitched. It mentions the court cases and how there were more woman than men accused of practicing witch craft. It also states how historians believe the girls were faking their fits from the start. Also mentions how religious Salem was at the time which influenced the trials. •
