In David Mitchell’s Slade House, the narrator of each chapter is targeted by the Grayer twins because they all seem to be “engifted.” The Grayer twins who are considered carnivores, feed on the souls of those who may be easily manipulated. For example, Gordon Edmonds is a cop, who is your typical heroic police officer but also easily surrenders himself to women for his pleasure.

However, Dorothy Ann Willis Richards is regarded by many as the first woman who earn the election for Texas's top office of governor. Thanks to many years of volunteering in numerous gubernatorial campaigns, because she was the first woman to become Travis County commissioner twice, and since she was also the first woman to serve as state treasurer, the 45th Governor of Texas earned her title. For these reasons and many more, Ann Richardson, as she was better known, won the race 1990 gubernatorial race against Clayton Williams, fair and square. Sarah Breedlove also known as, Madam C.J Walker was the first African American woman to become a self made millionaire by making hair products for African hair. She lived near Delta, Louisiana and was also the first in her family to be born-free (after slavery). In 1874, she was sent to live with her sister at the age of 7 when her parents, Owen and Minerva died. She suffered a scalp disorder and has tried everything to help it. She has tried home remedies and hair care treatments but they never helped her.

Although she failed in this aspect, Edith began specialized days in an effort to ration the items for the war effort. Her father, the English prince Edward the Exile, was called back to England in 1057 to be a potential successor of their throne. However, he died shortly after arriving in England. In “Birthday Party,” Katharine Brush’s purpose for writing the short story was to reveal how something that is good can go so wrong. She also demonstrates how some things are not what they seem. Especially in the situation that she wrote. Her purpose from the beginning to end is demonstrated by the use of literary devices. Brush begins by describing the scenario, she states, “They sat on the banquette opposite us.”

Tom’s and Gatsby’s party differed in almost every aspect possible. While Tom’s party was a small party to assert his dominance to his mistress and friends, Gatsby’s party was to lure and impress the love of his life. Tom’s party displayed his snobby old money ideals by not spending much money and effort, while Gatsby’s party symbolized new money with its excessive and flaunting spending and grandiose show. The level of intimacy at both parties differed significantly. Despite Tom’s party being small, it was far from intimate with all the guests budging into all conversations, Nick couldn’t even have a talk with Catherine long enough without Ms. Mckee budging in.
Although the party did indeed create great change for Liz, it is ironically exactly the opposite change that she expected to happen.
