Salvador Dali Salvador Dali is known for one of the most influential, versatile, and prolific artists in the 20th century. Dali was born in Figueres, a small town outside Barcelona, to a prosperous family. He was named after his brother Salvador, who had died at a young age. Dali’s parents believed that Dali was his brother’s reincarnation. When he was at the age of sixteen, his mom died of breast cancer, which affected him tremendously. Young Dali’s works of arts often depicted the landscape of his hometown. His paintings from his young age reflected his loneliness and anxiety towards his mother.
What made Dali become the eccentric and ostentatious artist as the world knows, was the advice from Dali’s uncle. Dali was a shy person as a young boy, and his uncle told him to become an actor in his relations with the people around him and pretend he was an outgoing, extrovert person. Influenced by his uncle’s advice, Dali’s personality had become self-esteem, fearless, unconstrained and extroverted-introvert. With his changed personality, he could perform his artistic skills at the best.

Surrealism is the subconscious or irrational significance of imagery, which is like a dreamlike imagery. Dali has applied this idea to his works of arts, which allowed him to express his own inner desires, fairs, and obsessions through his painting. Freud’s psychoanalytical theory was the turning point to Dali’s artist career that influenced him to avoid the cliché of the artistic techniques at the time. He illustrated his dreams and hallucinations. With his innovation in artistic perspectives, Dali gained great reputations among the world during his lifetime and until today. His iconic and now commonly seen images influenced many contemporary and modern artists. It’s hard not seeing Dali’s surrealistic arts in today’s
