One thing most Luckyday scholars have in common is our desire for bettering the community though our volunteer efforts. Groups were assigned different organizations to work with to help put what we are learning about servant leadership to action. My group has been assigned the Salvation Army as the location of our volunteer work. My group struggled with finding a time where everyone would be able to attend. Due to conflicting schedules we were not able to go until the first day of fall break. We also faced other challenges with not being able to contact the Salvation Army. What they needed assistance with was organizing and getting things ready to be brought into the store. We were separated so that we could each focus on a different area. Organizing and determining which books to throw out was what I had been assigned to help with. Being that I have a strong love of books, I was ecstatic to spend my time assisting. We were all placed in areas that we were able to truly make an impact of their workload for the day. I believe we worked well as a group even though we were not working directly with each other. This helped me understand as to how a group effort can involve more than one set of people. While we were Luckyday volunteers they included us into their group of everyday workers. The work was completed by the entire team. Not one person received more credit that the other. It could not have been completed without the entire until of people. The Salvation Army is full of people who exemplify characteristics of a servant leader. They are dedicated to furthering the growth of the community. With the work that is being completed, they are providing necessities to those who otherwise may not find affordable. They are giving them the tools and resources needed to
