I volunteered for the Product Recovery section that organized groceries and distributed them into certain boxes. HPFB is working to help prevent hunger and can provide four meals worth of food for
In the summer of 2013 at a family barbeque I nonchalantly asked my aunt if there was any way I could volunteer at her job, an intercity Salvation Army Core, throughout the week. Asking this simple question that I initially didn’t put much consideration into, steered to far more than I could had ever anticipate. I projected what my experience would be like at the core playing out different scenarios in my head. I expected it to be similar to every other volunteer experience I had, simply assist the employees and perchance meet a few people along the way. I thought I would be working in a back pantry categorizing and bundling foods into care packages having minimal encounters.
The organization, which I decided to volunteer two hours of my day to, was Cumac. Cumac is located in Paterson, New Jersey and they work to serve the people in the counties of Passaic, Paterson, and Northern New Jersey. They work with a staff of 21 and volunteers from all over to help people in need with food and supplies they would need to survive. Their mission statement is: “CUMAC feeds people and changes lives. It works to alleviate hunger and its root causes for those in need in Paterson, Passaic County, and northern New Jersey.”
When this summer is done, I might go back and volunteer at the shelter during my time here at Western. The total experience (or what is so far) was not bad, yet the only thing I did not like from volunteering was the smell of cat urine seeping into my clothes, but petting the cats was fun. I only say maybe because I do not know what my future schedule looks like, but if I ever had the time then I will try. I am not making any promises nor any guarantees. There are other great options and opportunities to volunteer at other local organizations too, so I do not have to limit myself to only
The Salvation Army organization began in England, in1865, by William and Catherine Booth (The Salvation Army). Before the start of the Salvation Army William Booth walked the streets of London, England preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ to the poor, hungry, homeless and less fortunate. (Walker, 2001) The formation of the Salvation Army began due to the church leaders having disagreements with Booth by not participating in the traditional methods of the conventional concepts of the church (Walker, 2001). The Salvation Army began with Booth and his wife holding series of evangelistic meetings and services in set up tents.
Executive Summary The Salvation Army of the United States is one of the largest national providers of welfare services; operating in 128 countries worldwide, consisting of over 1.5 million members (i.e., officers, soldiers’ and adherents) (The Salvation Army USA, 2018). The organization prides itself for working with and advocating for the rights and needs of disadvantaged people. I organized multiple clothing, food, and book drives. While I was a Girl Scout, I earned my Bronze and Silver award: the second and third highest awards a Girl Scout can earn. Some other examples of events that I’ve planned to give back to my community are cheer clinics, movie nights, and 8th grade prom. I also have gift wrapped at the KMCC during the holiday season, tutored students at the Intermediate School, volunteered at the Ramstein Bazaar, picked up trash around the base, and bagged groceries at the commissary multiple times. Taking action in the community is important to me because I like to make positive impacts that benefit the lives of
Hello Debra, We share some common experience as I also worked for a homeless service organization, serving homeless families. As the Assistant to the Director, I took this job very seriously as well.
My experience in the volunteer world has given me the direction to see many views on the world we live in today. I have gone on a week-long mission trip 4 summers in a row and 5 out of the last 6 and it has become
Throughout high school I have participated in many different activities and programs, but one of the opportunities I was given I will carry with me forever. As a junior at River Valley I participated in the Marion General Teen Volunteer Program. After interviewing and being placed in the physical therapy unit I took the opportunity to branch out into other areas of the hospital. I soon made my way to the labor and delivery floor where everyday a miracle happened. My duties while volunteering included assisting the nurses during hearing checks, changing diapers, and rocking crying infants in special care.
For example, in middle school, I was a member of NJHS. Through NJHS, I helped out with various different service projects that helped those in need. As well, in the past I have volunteered to help sort books for the Ridge Meadows Library and assist the librarians, spending an hour or two a week at Ridge Meadows after school for a few months. I have also volunteered numerous times at the Ridge Meadows Carnival, demonstrating both service and leadership because I am not only volunteering, but also taking charge of a group of kids at the carnival. I have also helped out both last year and this year by packing lunches for got your backpack, taking time away from my lunch in order to help others.
The Salvation Army’s Immense Impact A charitable organization is a nonprofit organization that provides relief to oppressed individuals who lack shelter, food, health care or education in their country. In 1865, the Salvation Army was founded by a Methodist Church in order to help the homeless. Ever since that year, the Salvation Army has spent their time helping the homeless. People who have helped the Salvation Army range from ordinary citizens to famous celebrities.
The Salvation Army also sends out pamphlets that if you "make a gift” to their organization you will get tax savings, for example, it says that, “if you give a gift of $5,000, you will get an income tax reduction of $2,309 plus a North Dakota (if you live in North Dakota, its different in other places) tax credit of $924. Then, at 6%, the payment you receive are $300 with a tax-free amount of $236. After receiving your income for life, your remaining gift of the $5000 goes to help those in need. It just sounds strange to me, to give a donation and then get money back, because to me, giving a donation means you don’t expect to get anything back, you do it because it’s the kind thing to do, not to get benefits.
The Salvation Army began in 1890 The Salvation Army had its first meeting in Atlanta on the corner of Marietta and Spring Street in 1890. Later in 1893 it established its District Headquarters in Georgia. Today, the Salvation Army is embarking on 125 years of “Doing The Most Good” in Atlanta, Georgia. Since that time the Salvation Army has expanded its services by helping the communities by providing temporary housing and shelter to families, single men and women, partnering with Ft.
My favorite action of service I have taken was the 2017 Summer Service Trip. I attended this through the school, and really made a difference. We painted offices, locker rooms, and benches. We moved furniture in classes and innovated new spaces throughout our school. I was extremely proud of the difference I made and plan to attend again.
