Samford University Personal Statement

Having spent many years living in Bessemer, Alabama, I am very familiar with Samford University. I know many of many people who have furthered their education at Samford after graduating my high school, and I have heard an abundance of wonderful things about life on campus. Moreover, when I began determining my options for after high school, I initially began looking at the schools closest to my home that offered the best opportunities for what I wanted to do with my life-- Pharmacy. Of course, Samford was first on my radar, but I reached out and explored other schools, like Alabama, Auburn, JSU, UAB, and Ole Miss. First, I see many similarities between Samford and my (soon-to-be) alma mater, Bessemer Academy. Both schools are a smaller-populated private school which values the idea of intertwining faith with academics and sports. Certainly, I attribute my academic successes thus far to Bessemer Academy and its faculty for the way I was always supported on a personal level by my teachers. I have heard many people say that their favorite quality of Bessemer Academy is the loving atmosphere, and they love how the entire school feels like one family. I believe Samford is quite similar to my high school in regards to friendly atmosphere as well as the small class sizes and personal connection to the educators. I am already a well-developed student for discussion based classrooms, so I believe I will thrive academically at Samford. Also, Samford is only a short drive from my home, so I will not be as nervous as compared to moving to a large campus far away. Therefore, I believe being close to home and familiar with all of my surroundings will give me confidence to practice my leadership skills early in college that, otherwise, I would not be confident enough to
