Am very excited to have the opportunity to apply for the nurse residency program at Piedmont Healthcare. Born in India, I came to the United States when I was 18. There are several cities in India, that are medically underserved. Growing up in such an area I can affirm to the dire need for healthcare professionals with access to pioneering research, medications, and cures. Experiencing and seeing your own family member getting poor health care services, creates a passion to improve this problem. In India, I volunteered at the Aga Khan Development Network, one of the largest NGO’s in the World and I continue to do so here in the United States. Serving the community and having an impact in their lives gave me the greatest sense of achievement. During my clinical placements at Piedmont, I had a wonderful opportunity to work in the NICU and that made me realize that nursing is not just a profession, it is a dedication, an obligation, a genuine service with love and care towards your fellow-men. …show more content…
Being accepted by these distinctive, and at times very diverse, cultures have given me the ingenuity to associate with people from various traditions because I know what it feels to arrive recently, in what seems like a new world, and have to find some correlation with the people around you quickly. I have gained a better outlook and belief that I can face uncommon challenges. I am also able to bring an indigenous and international viewpoint to the hospital that is sure to improve discussion, and aid as a stimulus for new perception among my colleagues. I believe this about nursing, no matter where you come from, you can always make a
