Morbid obesity is more than just cosmetic and can predispose an individual to diabetes, heart disease, and hypertension. Many treatment options are available and range from diet and exercise to weight loss surgery.

Help the client determine root cause of obesity. Rationale: Each client may have a different factor that influences their weight gain such as portion size, sedentary lifestyle , excess calorie intake and so on.
2. Encourage the client to keep a food journal. Rationale: This gives the client a realistic picture of their intake for the day.
3. Discuss emotions associated with eating. Rationale: The client may be eating to fulfill emotional needs.
4. Discourage participation in fad diets. Rationale: Fad diets may be effective in the very short term, but are often destructive to effective weight loss.
5. Encourage client to seek the help of a registered dietician. Rationale: A dietician can help the client further by creating a meal plan tailored to their individual needs.
