I ask for admission to UW-Madison to pursue an MA in Library Science, with a concentration in Youth Services, because it will enable me to continue building on my life’s work. I aim to inspire a love of literacy in all readers, to support the public in interpreting data, and to continue to make the library an integral institution for our communities. UW-Madison’s program offers the ability to receive a high-quality education in the concentration I am most interested in, as well as build relationships with key members of the Wisconsin community I wish to serve.

When I consider the roles that librarians and libraries have in today’s society, interpreting data and believing in people will be integral to success in the profession. My goal is that by attending UW-Madison SLIS, I will build on the skills I already have in these areas and gain additional skill that will help me to be a librarian that is both responsive to the needs of the community and highly skilled at advancing the profession. The school’s high rankings and Youth Services concentration are important factors I considered when choosing where to apply. I am open to various concentrations within the field, but I know that my life’s work will involve building a love for literacy in young people and being an advocate for marginalized groups. …show more content…
