Upon completion of the assessment, I summarized my understanding of what was shared and updated the hospital record. Through the analysis of each BPSS component, I have a good understating of Peter’ symptoms' frequency, intensity, duration, and onset. It is critical that treatment within the unit and post-discharge includes Peter’s mother. The inclusion of Peter’s mother could strength his mental health because she stands as support and encouragement. Peter does not have this kind of support from other family member or social friends. He lives alone and is unemployed. He also has few friends, whom he rarely gets into contact with. Basically, Peter is lonely and isolated. This is normal, considering his situation; however, he has poor coping skills. Group therapy (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy-based) with other people suffering from schizophrenia would help, within time. Group therapy offers support and gives the feeling that one is not really alone in the world. With group therapy, it is easier to give Peter a channel to share experiences and learn from others with the same problem. He gets people to talk to and rely upon to understand and not judge him. This could eliminate loneliness and help towards positive thinking. With this, he could work on combating his alcohol use with positive coping mechanisms.
The biopsychosocial model considers psychoeducation as an approach to healing psychological problems. The client must be aware of their condition. So, providing enough information about schizophrenia, its causes, effects, and symptoms would make Peter knowledgeable about his condition and improve his willingness to heal. Encouraging Peter to invite his mother could be quite helpful in this case. With the mother’s knowledge about his condition, she could also help him focus on healing, and offer the needed support and
