A lot of people come to the city of San Francisco because of its diverse and cultural community. The Mission is the neighborhood where you can see a lot of culture rising within the Latino community. Throughout many years, I have seen the Mission changing and actually being gentrified. That is not the only problem on these streets but also, the new raids of police. You can see so many arrests happening to people of color. A lot of those who are immigrants to this country. We also see a lot of violence against people of color being made the police, the people who are supposed to protect us not kill us. It’s not as cultured as it used to be. You can walk down the streets and see so many cultural stores, it was heartwarming. Now, you walk down the street and see so many stores being taken down to becoming homes. All these forces stand out to me because I am so used to these type of things happening in my community. Two of the forces that I would want to change is the invasion of ICE especially in a sanctuary city and the killings happening to people of color by police. The case of 19-year-old Jesus Adolfo Delgado Duarte being shot and killed by police officers changed my view on the authority in this community. Jesus was in the trunk of a car when he was told to get out but decided to shoot one shot that got him killed by about ten officers. Police officers have so much right and so many options to deal with a problem and choosing to kill a young boy was not the right answer. And what’s sadder was that Jesus was undocumented and that was probably the reason why he did not want to get out of a trunk of the car.
