In his essay Santaland Diaries that was aired on NPR, David sedaris wanted to accomplish two things. First was spoof the structure and tone of exposes and create an audience for his work, because although he had had slight success in his earlier stories he needed a breakthrough to get him started. In order to accomplish these goals Sedaris included repetition, hyperbole, dark humor, innuendos, and understatements to create an essay that would entertain the audience of his NPR broadcast and get them interested in more of his work. As the younger sister, Nenny is often Esperanza’s responsibility, and though her innocence is a major source of annoyance for Esperanza, it also signals Nenny’s independence. In many ways, Nenny is a pesky little sister. Esperanza must introduce Nenny to her new friends and keep her away from bad influences, such as the Vargas kids. Nenny also has qualities that Esperanza covets, including two names “Nenny” is short for “Magdalena”, pretty eyes, and shiny, straight hair. Though Nenny can be a nuisance and a tag-a-long, and her actions often embarrass and annoy Esperanza, she frequently demonstrates her independence.
A Christmas Carol was written by Charles Dickens in 1843. A Christmas Carol is a story about Ebenezer Scrooge, who only cares about money and power. One night, Jacob Marley’s ghost comes to tell him that 3 ghosts will be visiting him. Those 3 ghosts changes Scrooge’s life. Scrooge goes through many changes throughout the story.

Key Assignment One: “The Landlady” In “The Landlady,” by Roald Dahl, the author uses foreshadowing to alert the reader of the possible calamity that will befall the main character, Billy Weaver. Immediately, readers are provided with foreshadowing clues to the outcome of the story such as, “But the air was deadly cold and the wind was like a flat blade of ice on his cheeks” (Page 62). Roald Dahl drops hints ‘deadly cold’ and ‘flat blade of ice’, in the text, to foreshadow Billy's fate. Being that both statements are associated with violence, Billy may be in unavoidable grave danger.
The plays, "Trifles" by Susan Glasspell and "A Doll 's house" by Henrick Ibsen portray the way women were treated throughout the nineteenth century using the literary tool of symbolism. In Susan Glaspell 's "Trifles" she uses the bird cage and the dead bird to present the role and life of women in marriage and society, whereas Henrik Ibsen uses the dollhouse as a way for the reader to recognize the plays main similarities in the treatment of women. Even though the women in these plays share different lifestyles, they all face the same issues in their lives. In "trifles" Mr. And Mrs. Wright 's relationship can be described as abusive and lifeless.
A Christmas Carol is a very popular and famous story. It is about a man who hates almost everything and then when he is shown his whole life and how it will end he decides to change his life for the better. It is really intriguing when one goes in depth into the story. That is what I will be telling people about today.
The novel “The Haunting of Hill House,” written by Shirley Jackson, closely follows the traditional tropes of an American Gothic. The main character of the novel, Eleanor, begins her journey to self growth after accepting an offer to live in a suspected haunted house for the summer. Moreover, Eleanor meets three other people that have an important effect on her development as a person. These characters slowly begin to question their own sanity due to the house’s destructive nature. Jackson appeals to fans of the American gothic through her particular description of the house and how the characters interact with it in order to show the environments foil of an absolute reality.

Even with the oppression of women in society in this time, many women have struggled to expand their roles, and acquire additional rights. From my perspective, the authors of these stories are indirectly trying to tell us how much oppression the women have been through during the time. “The Thing on the Doorstep” is a short story about a woman, Asenath, who is not in control of herself because her father, Ephraim, possesses her body after he is deceased. “The Yellow Wallpaper” is a short story about a woman who suffers from mental illness.
Toy story is the initially enlivened film by Pixar Directed by John Lasseter. Toy Story takes after a gathering of toys who put on a show to be dead at whatever point people are available. As freedom is a life acceptance by everyone, including yourself, it makes life a lot easier. Is freedom really about being accepted? In his short story, “The Strangers That Came to Town” Ambrose Flack is revealing that true freedom is about being accepted. As in the story, Flack shows on how when the Duvitches had moved to town, they were limited in freedom around the community. I believe that true freedom is about being accepted because as the town did not accept the Duvitches at first, it became hard for the family to live and the town thought that they did not have the same value as them.
“On the Sunny Side of the Street” performed by Esperanza Spalding is a jazz and blues song about letting go of your worries by “walking on the sunny side of the street. The song is excellently performed and watching Esperanza Spalding perform was entrancing. The song was very cool and had a nice bass behind it. The light nature of the song was perfectly complimented by the low bass and free flowing piano notes. Many solos were performed and each one carried the liberating feel of the song forward.
Many kids around the world believe in Santa Claus. Around the holiday season Santa is seen through various advertisements, wrapping paper, movies, stories, and the most classic holiday songs that are played way too early in the year. One of the most iconic christmas song is ‘Santa Claus Is Coming to Town’ written and composed by John Frederick Coots and Haven Gillespie. It was first sung on Eddie Cantor's radio show in November 1934. Through the songs comes melodies and rhythms that will stick in our heads but one verse stands out the most to all adults, teens, and children.
Henrik Ibsen’s A Doll’s House, when first judged by its cover title, strikes the reader as very interesting and starts a multitude of inquires of why the title is so named. When one thinks of a doll’s house, most often, a cute and small, perfectly run and ordered, young girl’s favorite toy comes to mind. Everything is peaceful. A feeling of happiness runs through the air in such a way that no one would expect anything to go wrong. In A Doll’s House, a well-furnished living room is the setting of the entire play.
