In the song “Santa Tell Me”, written from Ariana Grande is about having doubts on a new true love during christmas time. This song includes three poetic devices which are dialogue,imagery,and personification. I will be explaining how these poetic devices convey with the true meaning in the text. Throughout the song she asks Santa these questions about love,and that’s where personification comes in. First she asks “Santa tell me if you 're really there”. In other words she’s asking Santa if he’s there, because she wants to know that someone actually listening to her. Next she asks “ It’s hard to tell if it’s a fling or is it true love”. First she says “Don’t make me fall in love again if he won’t be here next year”. Basically she is telling Santa if her lover won’t be with her , then don’t make her fall in love. Secondly she says to Santa “ Cause i can’t give it all away if he won’t be here next year”. To clarify, she won’t give the boy anything yet until she knows , that she can trust him. Finally, she says “ I’ve been down this road before”. She is telling Santa that she knows what it feels to be left alone, and that she is getting this sense that it’s happening again. In conclusion, that’s how Ariana used dialogue as a poetic device in her song ( Grande “et.al”). Last but not least, Ariana uses imagery as a poetic device , because she explained how she feels throughout her song (Grande “et.al”). First she says “Be my fire in the cold”. That meant, she wants this boy to be there for her when she needs him the most. Then she says “ This year I’ve got to be smart”. What Ariana meant, is that she won’t do the same careless mistake she did the year before (Grande “et.al”). Lastly she says, “I’m avoiding every mistletoe”. To put it in another way, she is saying that she’ll be a lot more careful on picking the boy to fall in love with this
