With the title like “Shitty First Drafts” I knew I would like this essay and I was right. Anne Lamott makes this easy to read without leaving me with any questions. The humorous tone that Lamott uses keeps you interested while she’s giving your great writing advice. This was a great read for me as I am currently struggling with writing some articles for another project.

Who killed John Hossack? The evident fact that William Haines executed John Hossack is as barefaced as it gets. William Haines had motive to liquidate John Hossack.
It is extremely normal for teens to fight and argue with their parents. In the passages Confetti Girl and Tortilla Sun, the narrator has a feeling of negligence from their parent. Both kids have only one parent and tension begins to build because both have different points of views. In both of the stories, the parent and child don't see to face which creates tension because the parent disregards their child’s interests, and they both have trouble connecting with their parent.
In Barbara Lazear Ascher’s essay titled “On Compassion” Ascher considers the concept of compassion by utilizing her own encounters with the homeless as a vehicle to make her argument. In her argument, she interprets compassion as an abstract concept, and portrays empathy as a building block to compassion; making the argument that to be a more tolerant society one must first learn empathy in order to demonstrate true compassion. When analyzing Ascher’s rhetoric, her style, diction and rhetorical devices reveal a skeptical tone and serve a greater purpose in appealing to the reader’s sense of ethos and pathos. Mary Mcleod Bethune’s life began in the same circumstances as many colored people during The Era Of Reconstruction. Bethune’s family was no exception to the entrapment that the withholding of civil rights caused. Bethune’s early realization that literacy could be used as a tool to potentially break and end the vicious cycle of degradation that occurred vapidly in her time would result in the founding of an amazing learning institute and years of service towards the cause of civil rights, her message of working for one’s self and compassion is still as powerful today as it was nearly a hundred years ago. “I know that I am a destroyer of the most precious thing, which is life”. This quote was from Patricia Krenwinkel. Patricia Krenwinkel had an important role in the Manson trials because she stabbed Abigail Folger countless of times and then later on she stabbed Rosemary LaBianca with a carving fork to death. She was found guilty of murder and they gave her the death sentenced, but the judge overruled it so she got life in prison. It has been 46 years since the murder of the Manson family.
Today this community gathers in honor of a dear, young girl taken from her family far too early, under deplorable, heartbreaking circumstances. Everyone knew Connie as a strikingly beautiful, lighthearted, decisive girl. It is rare that a teen can have such capability for strong decision making so early. That is not to say that Connie always made the right decisions, as no teenager ever does, but her willingness to make decisions at all is remarkable. My own surplus of indecision led to several regrettable life moments, and so I hope that Connie had no regrets in her young life, which was cut short far too soon.
Progress Of Women In The 1920 's and 30 's Back in the 1920 's women started becoming extremely significant in the society. Before then, women rarely found jobs that accumulated a high enough income to raise a family. However this act of sexism changed in the early years of the 1920 's, women began to get involved in male dominated jobs. This time it worked, women were finally getting their say in political issues and they eventually got the chance to speak up. The government realized the types of distress and discomfort women went through to keep a healthy lifestyle for their young ones.
Written in the 1970s, Jennifer Traig reveals in her humorous memoir how she changed and overcame the mental and social challenges that life threw at her from childhood into adulthood. Life certainly threw her tough challenges in the forms of OCD (obsessive compulsion disorder), scrupulosity, and anorexia. . To say the least, she looked for the devil in every detail believing if she didn’t do something perfect someone would get hurt. Traig begins her book by recounting a memory where scrupulosity took over. Being a form of OCD, scrupulosity makes its “victims” have an obsession with religion, in Jenny’s case her obsession was Judaism.
And the Summer was Over Summer is a universal symbol with as positive connotation filled with happiness and warm, long nights. When the temperature drops and jackets get pulled from the back of your closet, winter is approaching. Winter can be a time of snow mans and hot chocolate or a period of sadness, mystery, guilt, and regret. Alice Walker’s last sentence of her beautiful story, “The Flowers,” states, “And the summer was over,” which is a symbolic explanation that after every happy moment of euphoria comes a time of sadness and sorrow.
‘Annabel Lee’ by Edgar Allan Poe is an eminently beautiful yet tragic poem centred around the theme of a forbidden love between two people, and the many obstacles that they overcome in order to be together. At the same time the poem relates back to a man’s undying love for his wife in which even death is unable to hinder. From the beginning of the poem, I realized Poe to be an articulate person who has a beautiful way with words, as he describes the origin of his love story between himself and Annabel Lee. This was shown in Stanza 1 where I identified him to be a kind and doting person, as he continues to talk about a maiden from the kingdom by the sea whom only wished to love and be loved by Poe.
