Sarah Root, 21 years old died on Sunday, January 31st, 2016 in a vehicle wreck in Omaha, Nebraska. Root was driving a 2002 Oldsmobile Bravada east on L Street when her vehicle was struck from behind by an 2000 Chevrolet pickup truck driven by Eswin G. Mejia,19 years old. Root’s SUV was stopped or slowing down when it was rear-ended, police said. Mejia, who doesn’t have a valid driver’s license was treated at the Nebraska Medical Center for a leg injury and was caught on the suspicion of driving under the influence. Thursday, February 4th, Mejia was accused of felony motor vehicle homicide while driving under the influence and faces 20 years in prison if convicted. The man’s name is Samuel Corbitt, he also had his license suspended for 15 years and now is facing up to 50 years behind bars. The crash happened on September 28, 2010 when police say Meyers pulled out onto Pacific Street from 64th Avenue. Although Corbitt had the right of way, his blood-alcohol level at the time of the crash was .210. Meyers, of Bellevue, although a minor, had also been drinking that evening and was tested at .073. 30-year-old Tony Bedient, got married last month and is a golf coach for the university. His wife, Jessica, who also works for the university system was killed from this crash, but Tony Bedient is recovering in intensive care. The suspected drunken driver, 18-year-old Aaron Danoff, was also being treated at Creighton Medical Center. Police said the newlyweds were almost home on Saturday night when Danoff ran a red light at 144th and Q streets and slammed into their car. Police said an officer saw Danoff speeding and turned around to catch him, but it was too late. Aaron Danoff was sentenced to 10 to 14 years in prison for motor vehicle
