The Existence of Sasquatch in North America Thousands of sightings spring up all across the world. These sighting bring descriptions of a large bipedal apelike creature. Standing over 7 feet tall, it walks heavily with notably broad shoulders and unusually long arms. The idea of Bigfoot is highly controversial, but a hard look at the facts will shine light upon its existence. This elusive creature has not only perplexed the ones who have seen it, but has baffled the science community as well. Contrary to popular belief, the story of Bigfoot is not something that appeared in recent history. It has been a part of many cultures all across the world and has stories that have been passed down for thousands of years. The proof is out there in substantial …show more content…

What is important is to keep a scientific mind and view this video as a legitimate piece of evidence. There are many characteristics to this video then what appears at face value. First off, the way the creature walks is highly peculiar. A swinging motion of the hips is awfully unusual for a human to walk. Secondly, the arm length of the creature is far too large for that of a human, but what is more interesting is the bend in the elbow is proportional to modern apes. The idea that the Gimlim-Patterson footage was a man in a monkey suit is unrealistic. The obstacle of having such immensely large arms on a 7 foot tall gorilla suit and still having the proportional elbow bend is simply impossible for this time period. Its likely to be an insurmountable task for Hollywood costumes designers today. The most concrete piece of evidence solidifying this videos authenticity is the muscle contraction in the legs of the creature. Kyle W. Council, a professional CG animator, states important evidence, “The reality of the film subject as an un-catalogued animal is self evident. The muscle masses, if they had been padding, would have been static and restrictive. The presence of visible muscle contraction, the freedom of movement, the cadence of the walk, all fully support the claim that the footage documents a living hominid outside of the genus of man” (An Animator's Perspective on the …show more content…

The idea of an ape, previously thought to be extinct, is still living today and is hiding in remote forest in Asia and parts of The U.S. and Canada. In Jeff Meldrum’s “Sasquatch: Legend Meets Science” Meldrum states that Fragments of jaw bones and extremely large ape molars have been found in Asia. Alone, these fossils are able to create an image of what the creature actually looked like. Standing over 9 feet tall and weighing in at around 650 pounds it towers over modern apes. In comparison, a full size silver back gorilla weighs 380 pounds. He later shows that fossils of both Gigantopithicus and humans were found in Asia that date back to around the same date some 10,000 years ago(Sasquatch). This reveals that a similar creature people report today lived in the same geographical region. This doesn’t conclude that Gigantopithecus could not have made it to America. In past geography, there has been repeated land bridges that many species have crossed over from Asia to North America called The Bering Land Bridge. Woolly mammoths, saber tooth tigers, and various plant species have all been found on both continents. It is highly probable and very realistic that Gigantopithecus followed in a similar fashion. Many people think that an ape could not survive in such harsh climates that exist in the North Western United States, but the fact is that it could. The Chinese Snub-nosed Langur is a monkey
