The Beastie Boys. Need I say more? When most think of the rambunctious rap group from that came straight out of the 1980’s, they think about girls, partying, crude humor and maybe some music in between. Although The Beastie Boys as a group did a few things that had never been done before in music history. Thats pretty incredible considering nobody expected something so revolutionary to come from three middle class white jewish kids from New York.

Directional selection and disruptive selection are two of the three types of natural selection. Although both of them result in a population adapting to biotic and abiotic environments, they differ in many ways. Directional selection occurs when one extreme phenotype is favored over the other phenotypes, whereas disruptive selection occurs when two or more phenotypes are favored over the others. Another difference is that disruptive selection favors polymorphism and directional selection causes species to evolve over time and leads to the extinction of those lacking the phenotypes causing the distribution curve to shift.
The Andy Griffith Show: A Remembered love, or Forgotten Classic “ Nip it in the bud!” Barney Fife, the famous deputy from the iconic television show The Andy Griffith Show, frequently declares. On Sept. 1st, students from different corners of campus were all sprinting towards one common location: Ridgewood. It was, once again, that time of the year when Brandeis University’s four improvisational comedy groups perform for an audience of returning students and new first-year students in the annual Improv Comedy Showcase; a showcase that serves as a tidbit for first-year students of what the university has to offer. This year the show commenced with False Advertising, and it was followed on to Crowd Control, TBA and Bad Grammer, each group generally performed a series of long-form skits and short-form games that allowed them to demonstrate their compelling comic prowess. In addition, the performers were able to get everyone gleefully involved and engaged, often asking the audience for ingenious and witty ideas for them to use in the skits—although as the evening progressed, the air filled completely with wondrous ideas from
The Unexpected That Changed My Life for the Better Friday Night Lights not only refers to the stadium that football players play in, but it also refers to every Friday night in September through November. That simple phrase brings back several memories, that carry emotional weight. Memories that are exciting, awe-inspiring, and even painful, and frustrating. The poem “Friday Night Lights” by Gerald Locklin summarizes some of the emotions that come with playing a sport, and brings about a deeper thought process. Being a part of a sport becomes your life, it teaches life lessons, helps build your personality, and shows you passions you never would have dreamed of.
When you think of a popular successful black person, who immediately pops into your head? Will Smith? Oprah? Michael Jordan? All of them have unique capabilities, but none of them have the qualities of the successful man of the decade, Tyler Perry.

The Monkees Pretend for a moment that it is 1966, and you are driving to work, tuning the radio in your car. You stop on a station playing “Last Train to Clarksville” by The Monkees, a song you recognize from their popular TV show. The Monkees was a band of four boys that starred as themselves in a TV show as themselves and produced music. Though the band had a relatively short lifespan, the members produced plenty of episodes of their show and songs during it, and later wrote more songs after the breakup of the band via reunion tours. The members of the Monkees were very influential in the development of television and music during the 1960’s.
Fans of veteran comedian Bill Cosby took to social media on January 23 to voice their support and celebrate a big legal win. Fans tweets well-wishes to Cosby 's official Twitter account and gleefully said they knew all along that he was innocent of raping 40 women. The news broke on Thursday, January 21, but didn 't receive media attention until Saturday morning, prompting some supporters to accuse the media of deliberately tarnishing Cosby 's image and refusing to acknowledge his innocence. Even those on the opposite side of the subject, who believe that Bill Cosby raped at least some of the women who accused him took to social media to weigh in. It 's unlikely that either side will change their opinions on Bill Cosby and his guilt or innocence anytime soon.
The film Boyz N the Hood is a story about life in South Central Los Angeles. The film was wrote and directed by John Singleton in 1991. I chose this movie because of its relevance to the course and how it reflects pop culture in that time period. The opening line in the movie “one out of every twenty-one Black American males will be murdered in their lifetime” really catches the audience attention. This movie goes into detail and shows the life of three young males living in the hood of Los Angeles battling a life surrounded by drugs, violence, and questions of race.

Often I am asked why I chose dead celebrity as the focus of my dissertation, compared to simply celebrity, and specifically why I selected John Lennon and Johnny Cash as my case studies. Steve Jones, in Afterlife as Afterimage: Understanding Posthumous Fame, best captures some of the reasons I chose dead celebrity:
