When a society has no rules, no authoritative figures, and no responsibilities this would obviously lead to savagery. This is the concept of the book “The Lord of the Flies” by William Golding. “The Lord of the Flies” is about many children who are stranded on a remote island during a nuclear war, they have no rules, no parents, nothing. During their time on their island they fear an unknown beast in the forest, this causes an incredible amount of tension in the island’s society. The beast that they feared so much turned out to be a dead parachuter they had mistaken for a monster, but was this really the beast? Throughout the book, they become more and more evil, for example, one of the kid’s starts out by throwing rocks at another kid, and in the end, this same kid ends up rolling a boulder down a hill to crush someone, this is all the progression of the beast causing evil. Looking in a biblical sense, the beast is referring to the devil and everyone’s inner sin, which is something everyone fear’s. They end up worshiping this beast as a god because of the amount of fear they experience from it, technically they end up worshipping the devil because of their fear for him. Which causes there inner evil to consume more and more of their souls. At one point in the book, it ends up driving the kids mad for a short time, giving them a lust for blood and killing an innocent kid. In a document, it states “Kill the beast! Cut his throat! Spill his blood! Him! Him!” (Doc F) this is a prime example of their inner-evils taking over and causing them to lash out at any poor soul that trigger their bloodlust. They give anyone the title “the beast” so they have an excuse to kill. This by itself is the beast, it’s in everyone, the beast is sin. On the note it states “Lord of the flies” is a translation of a Hebrew name for the devil” (Doc E) this is definitely evidence that this book is referring to the devil, and that the beast is the devil and all of its evil and
