THE LORD OF THE FLIES THEME ASSIGNMENT The Lord of the Flies by William Golding is a really good and thrilling book. The theme of Lord of the Flies is even the calmest people are capable of savagery. The book starts out with Ralph and Piggy talking then Jack showed up and started making fun of Piggy calling him fat and a pig later turning into his nickname Piggy. The theme is savagery. At first Ralph, Jack, and Piggy had a good thing going. There was a little bit of arguing but not a lot. They even had a conch whoever was holding it could speak. Everyone would listen but Jack, later on, did not care about that. While they were living peacefully, Jack said they needed a chief and thought his group would pick him but mostly everyone picked Ralph. That's what started Jack's spiral downhill. Jack eventually goes to the camp and says “Listen all of you. Me and my hunters, we’re living along the beach by a flat rock. We hunt and feast and have fun. If you want to join my tribe, come and see us. Perhaps I’ll let you join. Perhaps not.” (Golding, 201). Jack then caught up to it and they pinned it but Jack couldn't do it which caused his spiral down so then they regrouped and went out again. They found out the pig was a mother and killed the pig “Kill the pig. Cut her throat. Spill her blood.” (Golding, 96).
