Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be stranded on an island with a school of kids? The book Lord of the Flies tackles exactly what you just thought about; the book is about a cluster of elementary school kids that were sent away from the U.K during a war. While they’re being evacuated, their plane gets shot down and all of the kids survive but none of the crew members do. The plane lands on a stranded island and this is where the children will live for the unseeable future. The book is written by William Golding who was inspired to write it after his past time-fighting in the war. After his time as a soldier Golding resumed as a teacher and began writing novels, however one book captured the reader 's attention, this book is Lord of the Flies. In this novel there is a Beast that takes different forms over the course of the story, each Beast represents different things that spark the children 's path to savagery. The three forms of the Beast that had affected the children the most are The Beastie, The Beast from Air and the Pig’s head. The Beastie severely mind meddled the children by being things that they found scary, this then spreads fear among the boys which inspires them to start hunting to protect themselves and to fight it off. The Beastie is a snake “Tell us about the snake-thing.” (Golding 46) which is something most children are afraid of. We also get to know that the snake-like thing appeared in the dark “He says the beastie came in the dark.”
