After thirty years, Say Anything directed by Cameron Crowe was able to retain the title of being a classic film. The creators of this film aimed to pack several characteristics in this film that allow it to be considered a classic film. This includes having a sturdy plot, and an uncommon story backed up with noteworthy dialogue between the main characters. Say Anything began with introducing each main character, which allowed the audience to understand the type of person they were. It was established that Diane Court was the valedictorian who took her school work very seriously. Her strive for success was also visible throughout the beginning of the film. Lloyd Dobler was the underachieving character, the opposite of Diane. Because of this major difference between them, the creators of the film proved that the film is or should be considered a classic by having a plot that focused on their differences. Further, this allowed the creators to establish a sturdy plot that focused on the two main characters. To be specific, there were many situations that the couple continuously ran into. These obstacles made the story different from other films since the situations that they encountered were unusual. In the film, Lloyd faced the issues of impressing Diane, earning the trust and admiration from her father, and figuring out how to continue their relationship, despite the possible distance they may face when she goes off to college.
