Disappointments to inspirations Muggsy Bogues was a NBA point guard who was listed as five feet three inches and he weighed one-hundred thirty-three pounds. The average height for an point guard is six feet three inches and the average weight is around one-hundred ninety pounds. People looked at him wondering, “How is this guy in the NBA?” Muggsy showed many people that he could play basketball at a high level despite his height. His stature helped him as he was very quick on the court. He has inspired short people to have confidence in yourself. The Scarlet Ibis, a short story written by James Hurst, and Simon Birch, a movie produced by Roger Birnbaum Laurence Mark, have characters who are also very short but they inspire many people. Their names are Simon and Doodle. The two pieces are closely similar in terms of their themes, characters, and the literary elements. One example of The Scarlet Ibis and Simon Birch being similar is that they both have similar characters. In Scarlet Ibis, there is a “disappointing” character named Doodle who was not expected to live long. Both of their themes are that it does not matter how disappointing you are, you can still do things normal people can do. This is shown in Simon Birch when Simon still plays baseball even though he may seem like he is unable to play baseball. He used his height to his advantage by batting walks most of the time he bats. In similar fashion, the theme is also shown in the Scarlet Ibis when Doodle learns how to walk even though the doctor said that the doctor says he would not even be able to crawl.
