What is disability, a bad attitude or having to struggle to do a simple task? James Hurst's story " The Scarlet Ibis", a little boy who really wants a brother and when he gets one the little baby is disabled. The older brother is ashamed to have a brother who can't even walk, run, or swim. He's so ashamed that he treats the little brother poorly. Eventually older brother realizes that he is stuck with the little disabled brother so might as well learn to live with the little brother and teach him the basic tasks of life. The older brother was mean to the little brother at times, but he is innocent when it comes to the death of the little brother. Brother is blameless of Doodles death. He was proud of Doodle for overcoming obsticals, that everyone thought Doodle would never be able to overcome. "But all of us must have something or someone to be proud of, and Doodle had become mine" (598). This also proves that Brother is not guilty because, he's saying that Doodle is his pride. Doodle is his pride because, Brother has taught him all these simple tasks. That no one else showed or even tried to show him. Without Doodle, Brother would not have anything or anyone to be proud of. When your proud of something or someone thats your motivation to do whatever it is your doing. Brother is determined to teach Doodle to do all these simple tasks so he can be proud of him, so his parents can be proud of both of them, and so Doodle wont embarrass him. So by Brother being proud of Doodle it gives him less of a reason to want to kill him. We all need a motivation to give us a reason to look forward to
